Zippy Toddy
FOOD AS MEDICINE:
The zippy toddy acts as an expectorant, thins mucus, aids in nausea, aids with sleep, and boosts immune function with vitamin C. I concocted this tonic herbal drink to assist my liver and it has quickly become one of my favorites! The taste is a bit different – it’s rich, spicy, and creamy, with a mocha butterscotch taste. It’s really hard to describe, but my taste buds dance to it. In turn, my hormones are happy, hence the name!
INGREDIENTS:
2 ½ cups hot water
⅓ cup lemon juice
1 tablespoon fresh ginger
2 tablespoons wild unfiltered honey
1 oz whisky or bourbon (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
Combine all ingredients and stir!
Stress Stabilizing Steamer
FOOD AS MEDICINE:
This beverage tonifies the immune system, nervous system, and adrenal glands, which in turn can balance hormones! Rich in vitamin D, omega-3 fatty acids, and adaptogenic herbs, this beverage is indulgent and balancing for your body.
INGREDIENTS:
½ cup coconut milk
½ cup water
1 egg yolk
½ teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon maca powder
1 teaspoon Ashwagandha (optional)
Pinch of salt
Pinch of cayenne
2 dates
DIRECTIONS:
Warm coconut milk and water on stove top. Slowly whisk in egg yolk. Move to a blender and add other ingredients. Blend until smooth and creamy. Pour into a mug and savor this luscious beverage. Take some time to breathe and focus on healing energy while you allow the adaptogenic herbs reduce your stress drivers and set you up for resilience.
“Nutella” Hot Chocolate
FOOD AS MEDICINE:
Our hot chocolate has the decadent taste of Nutella without all of the artificial flavors and preservatives!
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup full fat milk, non-homogenized or raw
1 cup hazelnut milk
⅛ cup hazelnut butter
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 tablespoon maple syrup
4 oz high-quality chocolate
DIRECTIONS:
Mix well to incorporate both milks under medium heat. While it’s heating up, roughly chop up the chocolate. Once the milks are combined, add in the hazelnut butter, cocoa powder, and maple syrup. When the mixture is hot and blended, add in the chocolate and mix until fully melted and combined. Keep on medium low heat and stir often until it begins to simmer.
