GREEN PARADISE SMOOTHIE RECIPE
FOOD AS MEDICINE:
This nourishing smoothie has both pre- and probiotics to create a symbiotic gut. This refreshing treat is loaded with antioxidants and is anti-inflammatory helping to cool your body through the effects of the probiotics and the ginger. It is a great healthy snack and good way to sneak cultured foods into your diet!
Probiotics are live microbial food ingredients that have a direct and indirect effect on our health. Directly they work to regulate our digestive tracts, decrease gas and bloating, defend against food allergies, and increase the ability to absorb nutrients, vitamins, and minerals from our food. Indirectly probiotics work to improve our immune system, defend against cancer, decrease inflammation, and as natural antibiotics.
Necessary components for a balanced smoothie:
1) Healthy fats: chia, hemp, flax seeds, nut butter, nuts, coconut shreds, coconut oil, coconut milk, whole fat milk, avocado
2) Fruit of choice, max 1 cup; frozen of add ice if desired
3) FAM Flavorants: fresh herbs, ginger, turmeric root
4) To make it a meal, need a protein: Grassfed Whey is best if tolerated, look for non-denatured for active immune boosting compounds and antioxidants OR Greek yogurt for a probiotic protein kick!
INGREDIENTS:
1/3 Frozen Banana
¼ mango, peeled
½ inch fresh ginger, peeled
¼ cup coconut milk
¼ cup filtered water
1 Tablespoon ground flax seeds
¾ cup cultured Greek yogurt (Greek yogurt has at least 15g of protein in a 6oz serving)
1-2 cups greens (spinach, collards, kale, chard, etc)
optional: ½ cup of ice
DIRECTIONS:
Place ingredients in blender and mix on high until ingredients are blended together and texture is creamy.
