Naturally Nourished Low Carb Margarita
NATURALLY NOURISHED LOW CARB MARGARITA
FOOD AS MEDICINE
Tequila is definitely the most keto-friendly alcohol choice in terms of its caloric influence and can be dressed up a number of ways. This is our favorite to make at home or order in a restaurant (though they likely won’t have coconut water or orange extract on hand!) Choose clear tequila for the cleanest option, we like Casamigos or Espolon. The addition of coconut water, lime and ample sea salt helps to prevent electrolyte depletion associated with alcohol consumption. Alternate with Topo Chico to stay hydrated! Ole!
INGREDIENTS
1.5 oz clear tequila
2 Tbsp fresh lime juice
2 oz coconut water
2-3 drops orange extract or orange essential oil
Ice
2 oz sparkling water
sea salt for rim
DIRECTIONS
Place the tequila, lime juice, coconut water, and orange extract or oil in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake. Run a lime around the rim and roll in the sea salt. Pour over ice and top with the sparkling water.

What brand of orange extract do you like to use for cocktails? I use Simply Organic Orange Flavor, which is great in Keto ice cream. However, it’s greasy and won’t mix in to cocktails. It just floats on top.
Simply Orange or Frontier Co-op is what I use. It mixes in while shaken and I honestly don’t mind a couple dots or orange flavor on top which may happen.
This is a really refreshing margarita, not (overly) sweet like typical margs. I did add a few drops of stevia for guests who were used to the sweet ones, but only about 2-3 drops per marg. Everyone loved it. Thanks for this – it’s now my favorite marg!
