Scary Halloween Treats: Bloody Thumbs with MCT Ketchup
SCARY HALLOWEEN TREATS: BLOODY THUMBS WITH MCT KETCHUP
FOOD AS MEDICINE
There’s nothing scary about the ingredient list in these creepy Halloween treats! When choosing a hotdog or sausage it is essential to look at quality sourcing! Traditional hotdogs can have a scary list of ingredients including nitrites, a known carcinogen. Choosing uncured and 100% grassfed for beef or pasture raised if doing a pork sausage ensures the best quality meat raised on its natural diet without antibiotics or growth hormones. These creepy hotdogs make a fun snack or part of a meal for kiddos and adults alike. We’ve paired them with an MCT ketchup as a delivery for kids needing to achieve therapeutic ketone levels for management of neurological conditions such as epilepsy or those needing to gain weight and pack in the calories and brain boosting fats. This can be a great tool for adults looking to achieve higher ketone levels as well, whether for therapeutic reasons or just looking to add more fat to your fat-fueled lifestyle!
INGREDIENTS
4 grassfed hotdogs (such as Teton Waters Ranch)
4 slices pasture-raised bacon
8 slivered almonds
1/2 cup Primal Kitchen Ketchup
2 Tbsp MCT oil
DIRECTIONS
Preheat the oven to 375. Prepare the hotdogs by cutting in half crosswise. Prepare the bacon by cutting each strip down the middle vertically. Using a paring knife, cut out a small indention at the top of each hotdog roughly the size of one of the slivered almonds. Cut 3 small slits near the top, these will be the “knuckle.” Starting at the bottom of each hotdog half, wrap the bacon around and secure. Place on a baking sheet and bake, turning once, about 12-15 minutes until bacon is cooked through and hotdogs are puffed up. Once cooked, remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly. If they shrivel slightly, even better–that just adds to the creepiness factor! Push the almond into the slit you cut for the thumbnail and secure. To make the MCT ketchup, mix the ketchup with the MCT oil and whisk with a fork until well combined. To serve, spread the ketchup on a plate. Stand the hotdog “thumbs” upright on the plate. If needed, you may slice off the very bottom to create a flat edge so they will stand up. Repeat with the remaining hotdogs and enjoy your scary treat!
